My Story
Katy Bennett began Home Of The Good Chair to help create her own path.
The journey began selling second hand chairs, however a love for Danish design made the Danish corded chairs a favourite. When searching for the chairs they all had broken seats. So I took it upon myself to learn how to weave and it all started from there.
Home Of The Good Chair was founded by Katy Bennett in September 2020.
I’m originally from Devon and grew up on the edge of Dartmoor before moving to London to study a degree in Fine Art.
After that, I spent 2 years in the fashion industry as an intern for companies such Net as Net-a-Porter, Joseph and MatchesFashion. When I thought I was ready to take a career as a stylist finally, I was faced with rejection after rejection from every interview. I was really affected by it.
I finally decided to change paths and go down the interior route. Working in retail at The Conran shop, my love for design and interiors flourished. Then after lockdown I was again rejected from what seemed to be a dream job. This resulted in the realisation I needed to do something for myself. Create my own reality. Home Of The Good Chair was born out of the determination to prove that I am capable and can put my skills to good use.
My studio is based in the Historic Dockyard in my now hometown of Portsmouth.
